WORKSHOP ELLY SMALLWOOD

In this workshop artists of all levels will learn how to draw and paint portraits in a loose and expressionistic style using charcoal and oil paint.

Participants will be taught how to draw the face in charcoal and then how to paint it in the Alla Prima painting style, so one portrait will be finished each day of the course. Each day will start with a demonstration of how to draw the face, focusing on anatomy and proportions, and then a painting demonstration where the participants will learn how to paint a dynamic portrait with loose brush strokes and bold colours. The Attendees will warm up with a series of quick sketches along with Elly, and then will begin their own pieces. 

Each class will finish with an (optional) critique of the students work, and students are welcome to bring images of their previous work to class as well so that Elly can review them and give advice.
