In Black, White and Gray

Shen Wei (http://www.shenweidancearts.org)--who is perhaps best known for choreographing the Opening Ceremonies at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing--is also a painter, director, and designer; he is the founder of both the Shen Wei Dance Arts company and a dance technique, Natural Body Development. An incredibly expressive multidisciplinary artist, his dance work has been featured worldwide, but his painting is equally impressive. On December 5, he will debut a series of paintings, along with accompanying performances inspired by the works themselves.

 

Presented by Miami Dade College's Museum of Art + Design, the show is incredibly accessible--on view from December 5 throughFebruary 1, with free performances December 5 through 7. This is something of a rarity for Art Basel, particularly with an artist of this caliber. The Freedom Tower itself is a lovely space, a historic landmark recently repurposed for the Museum.
