Tous les Jours, an international online solo art exhibition by Vivienne Riggio opens on July 23, and will continue for two months until September 23, 2024.
For the "Tous les Jours" art exhibition, Vivienne Riggio fabricates large-scale mythical creatures that transport viewers to another time and place. Drawing from her operatic costume design background, she combines Southwestern embroidery techniques with found objects, native sheep’s wool, and traditional handiwork. My style is collaborative! I partner with textiles, sheep, forests, paper, scrap yards, segundos, antique fairs, and together we lay down a blueprint of the current or next piece. It is a democratic process where each element has a voice and a purpose. I don’t resist. Aside from the beloved native sheep’s wool and traditional New Mexican embroidery techniques, I intertwine leftovers and offerings left on my doorstep. They could be an old canvas, reins, bridles, rosaries, laces, anything with texture and ancestral history. Friends and acquaintances entrust me to intertwine their heritage with mine.
I was raised in a culture imbued with Catholicism, Italian values including discipline and morality, and academia. My two older sisters were rambunctious, my younger brother wary of our tribal energy. I was not an introvert, but so dreaded the reaction of others that I took an obscure seat and observed, transforming those startling impressions into art forms. It has not changed much since.
