Mid Career Retrospective; an international online solo art exhibition by Ed Whitmore opens on July 16, and will continue for two months until September 16, 2024.

Join us for "Mid Career Retrospective," an evocative exhibition by Ed Whitmore that showcases his remarkable journey as an artist. Ed's work with metal effects paints—iron, copper, bronze—creates stunning patinas in shades of brown, green, and blue, reflecting his fascination with the passage of time and a yearning for a lost past. Influenced by his parents' uprooting from Poland during WW2, and his exploration of ancient ruins and art, Ed's pieces often embody themes of decay and loss. However, they also embrace life’s resilience, seen in his whimsical sculptures and paintings. Incorporating vintage objects and hand-chiseled wood planks, Ed's work combines ancient techniques with modern sensibilities. Adorned with semi-precious stones, his pieces offer a rich, tactile experience that exudes positive, calming energy. This exhibition is a testament to Ed's ability to blend history, personal narrative, and artistic innovation.

Artist ( Description ):

As a young man, Ed developed an interest in ancient civilizations which led to personal exploration of architectural ruins and reinforced his yearning for a lost past. Themes of decay and loss can be found in many of his pieces, and is reflected in his choice of medium, the evocative build up of patina that develops as a result of the oxidation of iron copper and bronze metal effects paint. When in his early 20s, Ed was enthralled by Mark Rothko’s large color field paintings exhibited in a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum. Lost in spiritual reverie while contemplating Rothko’s works, Ed experienced an ineffable sense of the sublime. This experience left a lasting impression on Ed and has had an enduring influence on his art. He tries in his own work to capture some of that sense of awe that Rothko’s work evokes.
