PRESS RELEASE

"Martin Stommel works on still life, preparing the more major tasks, also portraits and self portraits of an intense seriousness. His landscapes, not coincidentally called „idyllic scenes“ by the painter, commemorate the light and the color, the expanse. Small in size, they arise from natures model where people only play a minor part. They give an individual stretch of scenery, but the choice of aspect, the carefully composed order soon distinguishes them as expressive generality leading us up to what the artist reveals as valid. Basically setting standards for Stommels works is, as may best be seen in his landscapes, nature and the great tradition of representational painting.
