KÀN explores the unique and subtle moments in life as observed by select artists from China’s Central Academy of Fine Arts and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts alongside artists from the U.S. KÀN in Chinese translates to to look. To look is substantially different from seeing in that there is intention and purpose. Intention is what drives an action to explore and examine what is real and in front of us. To look, examine, recall, and ultimately contemplate is to engage in the human experience of KÀN.
The act of looking as an art form is to view life through the lens of curiosity and connectivity. The artist observes and experiences life in a specific way. The manifestation of this artistic process captures the observation, memorization, and re-imagination of looking. Through case study and observation, these artists capture the subtle moments through a wide range of textures and mediums. The intention of this exhibition is for the artwork to provide context to how the artist invites the viewer to look closer from a unique perspective
