Arushi Gallery and Berj Art Gallery, present The Boundary Beyond Figure, a walk through of many faces of figurative art by emerging and mid-career artists from Ghana and its neighbors. This is the first time we experience an all Ghanaian art exhibition in Los Angeles, with all the works created in Ghana before they were shipped here.
In recent years, Ghana has left its mark on the artworld with successful artists such as El Anatsui, Ibramin Mahama, Amoako Boafo and Serge Clottey. The exhibit, curated by Arushi Kapoor, a champion of international minorities, and William Prempeh, an advocate of Ghanian art, gives a platform for the viewers to identify the distinct techniques within the umbrella of diasporic artists.
The collection of works by artists Billy Baffoe Bonnie, Brandon B-Doku, Maxwell Boadi, Komla Letsu Phillips, Nii Teiko, Eric Odartey, Israel Padonu, Daniel Nortey, Torto Lawrence, Sowatey, Yaw Mensah, Benjamin Sencherey and Kofi Buckman tackle subjects like sexuality, female rights, limitation of culture, black joy, self-confidence and identity in a cosmopolitan world with the intention to promote conversation beyond the boundary of the present figures.
