Ode to French Pastry, an international online pastel drawing exhibition by Anna Moore officially opens on March 24, and continues for two months until May 24, 2025.
What does flavor look like? How does memory take shape in color? In Ode to French Pastry, Anna Moore invites us into a world where the geometry of taste is brought to life in soft pastel. This exhibition is a feast for the senses, a tribute to the exquisite complexity of French desserts and the evocative power of abstraction.
Each artwork in this series reimagines the structure of indulgence—the buttery crumble of a tart crust, the glistening burst of berries, the silken depth of dark chocolate. Through an intricate balance of root rectangles and dynamic symmetry, Moore deconstructs the familiar forms of confections and reconstructs them in striking geometric arrangements. Her compositions vibrate with rich, saturated hues that pulse with energy, their layered pastels creating a luminous depth that is as ephemeral as a dusting of powdered sugar.
But beyond their visual delight, these works tap into the emotions and sensations of eating. The zesty sting of lime, the cool, herbaceous whisper of mint, the velvety bitterness of cocoa—each color, each shape is an echo of taste, scent, and touch. Moore’s work transforms food into memory, and memory into a universal language of form.
Yet within this sensory celebration, one piece stands apart: Swimming with My Mother in Morocco. Unlike the rest of the series, this work does not speak of sweet and citrus but of water and warmth. It is a moment suspended in time, a contrast to the structured indulgence of the other pieces. In this inclusion, Moore reminds us that taste—like memory—is not only about the pleasures of the palate but also about the experiences that shape us.
In Ode to French Pastry, Moore has crafted a collection that is both playful and deeply intentional, capturing the essence of taste and transforming it into a visual symphony. Her pastels do not merely depict; they invite us to savor, to remember, and to find meaning in the exquisite geometry of the everyday.
