Along the Lines, an international online solo painting art exhibition by Jim Soppelsa opens on May 01, and will continue for two months until July 01, 2024.
With the use of a limited set of parameters on a two-dimensional surface, Jim Soppelsa continues to look for solutions to spatial relationships using the simple tools of shape, line and color. Jim's intention is to arrive at a result that conveys the endless variations that can be achieved via an abstract approach to composition.

Artist:
My father was a talented artist and had a tremendous influence on me.
One word he used that fascinated me as a kid was the word abstract. If I had to pinpoint a single influence on my work and the pursuit of art as a lifetime career it would be that word.
In my early years, I began to show potential as an artist. That being one of my strengths I decided at an early age that art would be my vocation.
I went on to attend The Cooper School of Art in Cleveland Ohio. There I had courses
in both commercial and fine art. While attending Cooper I was an apprentice at a commercial art studio and after graduating with a major in Communication Design I went to work in the commercial field. At the same time I continued to work on my own studio / fine art mostly painting and drawing. Primarily working in series within a few limiting parameters. What interests me is the freedom I find in systems. An abstract approach to composition has been of interest to me for as long as I can remember.
